Re-Tek have engaged with many local authorities to identify and develop innovative projects which take forward objectives in terms of reuse education, awareness-raising, social inclusion and community benefit.
Inclusion and Employability
We worked with Aberdeenshire Council’s Social Work department to secure third party funding for a pilot project that facilitated the development of the Recycle (Deeside Services) and Idea-Tek projects (Aboyne & Stonehaven).
This subsequently provides members with opportunities to develop skills related to logistics, collections and warehousing of ICT.
Working with Supported Businesses
Local Authorities and Re-tek have provided financial donations and equipment to a number of charities across Scotland. Given the income sharing model, profits generated from the resale of the electronic equipment, is made available to the Local Authority who can then decide whether to use within the Local Authority, or donate to a charity in the region. Through these agreements, the Local Authority is able to share the benefits of the revenue stream, whilst supporting environmental initiatives through Re-tek’s Circular Economy reuse processes.
Education and Awareness Raising
With our project partner Enscape Consulting and Aberdeen City Council’s Education Services, we developed the award-winning TechKnow project, a key part of which included developing lesson plans on the circular economy and the importance of reusing electrical and electronic equipment. With Falkirk Council, we also developed awareness raising materials for use in workshops with school children across the council area.
Community Benefit
We believe in supporting charities in our client’s local authority regions to share the benefits generated from our reuse processes. An example of this is our partnership with East Sussex County Council through which we have donated 10 Samsung Tablets to a Children’s Hospice in West Sussex.
We have now successfully delivered a range of short and long-term projects with...
Falkirk Council, Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Perth and Kinross, Dumfries & Galloway and East Ayrshire Councils (involving waste management, social work and education teams). Please contact us if you would like to find out more about how we can work with you to develop valuable new environmental initiatives in your area.
