We work actively with schools, colleges and universities to deliver practical hands-on activities that enable pupils to think about what is inside their tech, how they can take care of it and what they can do to responsibly dispose of it, when it is no longer needed.

Schools

In association with our project partner Enscape Consulting and Aberdeen City Council’s Education Services, we developed the TechKnow project, a key part of which included developing lesson plans on the circular economy and the importance of reusing electrical and electronic equipment. This project won the Aberdeen Ecocity award for waste reduction and the Scottish Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice.

Further and Higher Education

We have developed close links with a number of further and higher education establishments. For example the Perth College campus of the University of the Highlands and Islands where various collection activities were taken forward in a pilot project supported by Zero Waste Scotland. Students also benefitted from career chats, and regular factory tours. For many students this was the first time that they considered a career in Scotland’s emerging circular economy industry.

We have also implemented pilot collection projects for University students at Halls of Residences in Newcastle, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh, through the support of Unite Students.

Education Centre - Falkirk Council

We have developed WEEE awareness raising materials to be used within a future, council-run waste education centre. These materials are currently being used for the delivery of workshops for school children across the Falkirk Council area, including those with complex learning needs, within their own environment.

Tours and Workshops

We are an inclusive business and our facility tours and workshops are tailored to suit the individual needs of educational establishments, so please get in touch to discuss. Tours of the facility are free, however, consideration would be needed to cover the cost of travel.

We are happy to talk to you about the different ways in which Re-Tek can provide support, such as...

workshops, developing education materials, provide career talks, tours and any number of other innovative approaches. We are keen to enhance awareness of the circular economy and the reuse of electrical and electronic equipment so please get in touch.
